Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan Firing Case – SIT Needs to File Complete Charge Sheet, Says Faridkot Court

As per the latest proceedings of the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura cases, former IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal, and former senior superintendent of police Charanjit Singh Sharma appeared in the court. However, former director general of police Sumedh Singh Saini was granted exemptions on health grounds. The matter is adjourned to October 15. Seeing the severity and complexity of the cases, the trial court has decided to pursue both cases together.

Recently, Insaaf Morcha and Other Sikh Organizations tied together demanding the quickest decision on the case.

Now the Faridkot court said that proceedings will not move forward till SIT submits the complete charge sheet in both cases. On July 12, the trial court in Faridkot directed both SITs to submit their status reports within a fortnight. The court has restricted the access of the charge sheet to the accused.

A team from the Moga Police and Forensic Science Lab (FSL) visited the site where the October 14, 2015 shooting incident took place on August 16, led by Moga SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana (member of the Special Investigation Team).

Special Investigation Team Finding Evidence

SIT team has revisited the place to clarify the facts and find the evidence. Furthermore, SIT had questioned Saini earlier this month and submitted a status report to the Faridkot court.

To speed up the cases and to complete the cases with fair judgments, a new three-member SIT-headed committee is formed by ADGP Yadav and tasked with completing the probe preferably within six months.

It is expected that the new SIT will file the charge sheet within a fortnight. In both cases, the judicial court is taking action to resolve them. Before reaching a final decision, the court is considering every minute detail.
